Showers Tues Night; Almost Chilly Wed

Good morning folks! Rain returns tonight and so does cooler weather, with highs on Wednesday struggling to reach the upper 40's - low 60's depending upon elevation, when they should be in the low - mid 70's across the valleys for the middle of May. The bulk of the rainfall will be to our south and east but we will pick up roughly a half inch of rain between Tuesday night and Wednesday afternoon; most of this falling before noon on Wednesday. Cooler weather lingers into Thursday under a mixed bag of clouds, isolated showers, and sunshine. Upper level heights begin to rise slightly on Friday and with sunny skies making a return, temps should bounce back to the low 70's across the valleys as we end the work and school week. Temps reach the mid - upper 70's over the course of the weekend across the lower elevations, while the ridgelines hold to the low - upper 50's each afternoon. Shower chances return early next week but we'll hold off details till our next discussion on Thursday.

A front enters the region Tuesday night, sparking scattered showers to develop across the region and all of SW NC is expected to pick up rain, with totals ranging from a tenth up to a half inch of rain by sunrise on Wednesday. Temps Tuesday night will settle into the low - upper 40's across the region and only climb back to the upper 40's - low 60's on Wednesday.

Plan for a late winter/early spring type day on Wednesday, with more clouds than sun, showers continuing till the late morning - midday hours, alongside a light northeasterly wind. Haywood and Transylvania counties will be the coldest spots on Wednesday with highs in the upper 40's - low 50's in the valleys, while Cherokee and Clay counties will be our warmest spots, possibly hitting the mid - upper 50's. Another tenth of an inch of rain is likely on Wednesday and showers should dry up as we approach sunset, if not by the early afternoon hours. Temps overnight will settle into the upper 30's - mid 40's depending upon elevation.

Thursday's high temps reach the upper 40's - mid 60's depending upon elevation and we'll experience a bit of everything, with a mixed bag of sun and clouds and an isolated shower or two (better chance as you near the TN line) throughout the day. Shower chances wind down Thursday night and temps bottom out to the mid 30's - mid 40's depending upon elevation, with frost a possibility above 4500'.

Friday through Sunday features sunny skies, however an isolated shower or two is possible Friday evening, but this will be short lived and over with by the pre dawn hours on Saturday. Temps hit the low 50's - upper 60's on Friday, climbing to the mid 70's on Saturday and likely the upper 70's on Sunday. Overnight lows settle into the low - upper 40's Friday night and level out to the mid 40's - low 50's Saturday and Sunday nights; under mostly clear skies.

We'll stop here and circle back on Thursday before noon. Enjoy!
