Muggy Sunday & Monday; Sunny Tuesday
Good evening folks! Scattered showers are ramping up across the area as we move closer to sunset, with scattered showers and thunderstorms occurring this evening and lasting through the pre dawn hours on Sunday. Rainfall totals have ramped up with the front stronger than previously forecasted and this mainly affects the escarpment where up to an inch is possible by midday Sunday; 0.25 - 0.50" for the rest of SW NC. Shower coverage will slowly wind down as the day moves along Sunday, with sunshine and high clouds slated for Monday as cold air damming sets up across the Carolinas. Sunny skies reign supreme Tuesday and it looks like we are in for a widespread rain event late Wednesday into Thursday, but the details as to when exactly rain will start and how much are still up in the air. What does look promising is that high pressure should follow the late week low pressure system, setting up a fall like day for Friday, lasting all weekend. It looks like temps will continue to remain well above freezing each night, with no overnight lows in the 30's all week long; possible dip into the 30's next weekend.
Sunday wraps up the weekend with partly - mostly cloudy skies before noon, slowly giving way to high, thin clouds before sunset. We'll experience a handful of showers early in the morning but most of the action should be over with by midday and temps will push to the upper 50's - upper 60's depending upon elevation. Overnight lows settle into the low - upper 50's under partly - mostly cloudy skies.
Monday and Tuesday will remain dry for most of the region but there is a chance an isolated shower or two develops as we continue to experience above normal moisture levels. High clouds persist on Monday with periods of sunshine and the wedge should break down Tuesday, allowing mostly sunny skies to sit overhead the entire day. Temps warm to the upper 50's - low 70's Monday and Tuesday, with overnight lows dipping to the low - mid 50's Monday night and upper 40's - mid 50's Tuesday night.
An upper level low migrates toward our region and pairs with a front Wednesday into Thursday, pushing across the Carolinas sometime Thursday. Timing is still up in the air but the pieces are coming together for a widespread rain event sometime Thursday, followed by a dry, sunny end to the work week. Temps drop from the low 70's Wednesday to the upper 60's Thursday, only making it to the low 60's Friday.
We'll stop here and circle back on Monday, focusing on the upcoming rain event later in the week. ENJOY!
