Soggy Friday and Saturday

Good afternoon folks! We're beginning to shift into the wetter portion of the forecast as moisture begins to surge into the region, setting the stage for a wet end to the week and start of the weekend. Scattered showers and thunderstorms under mostly cloudy skies make up most of the action on Thursday and keep in mind that some of these will be heavy rain producers that may move very slow across the landscape. Coverage expands to all of SW NC on Friday and Saturday, with Friday being the wettest day as an upper level wave swings nearby the region, setting the stage for rainfall totals around one inch by late Friday night. We'll begin to dry out slightly on Sunday with coverage scaling back to scattered and possibly even further as we enter early next week. Temps all the while will dip to below normal levels Thursday through Sunday, climbing back to normal by early next week as excess moisture begins to push east.

If you need to get some yard work done or perhaps wrap up a job outside, tomorrow morning might be your only window as we expect scattered showers and thunderstorms to dot the landscape Thursday starting around the early afternoon hours. A handful of these storms will be heavy rainfall producers and they'll also be slow moving, setting the stage for a few isolated locations to surpass the one inch mark on Thursday, while the rest of the SW NC picks up a quarter - half inch. Temps Thursday will warm to the low 70's - low 80's depending upon elevation and cloudy skies will take over by the early - mid afternoon hours, with shower coverage continuing into the evening hours, possibly not scaling back till the pre dawn hours. Overnight lows settle back into the low - mid 60's.

Friday and Saturday will be wet and we recommend rescheduling your outdoor plans for Friday if you were hoping for sunshine and dry weather; Saturday still looks salvageable if you don't mind a passing shower or two. All of SW NC will experience showers on Friday and it won't be a washout but we do expect a healthy rain event with totals hitting a half inch for almost everyone and numerous locations have a shot at reaching the one inch mark. Saturday will also be an active shower day but rainfall totals should hold to the quarter - half inch mark, with passing clouds overhead both days. Temps will be held to the upper 60's - upper 70's depending upon elevation each afternoon, with overnight lows settling into the low - mid 60's each night. Friday night in particular will keep shower activity going all night long, whereas Saturday night will experience a decline in coverage past sunset.

Sunday into Tuesday of next week is showing signs of drying out but not fully, with pop up showers sticking around throughout the day on Sunday under high, thin clouds, followed by much more sunshine on Monday and Tuesday. Temps will respond to the increase in sunshine, warming to the low 80's Sunday under high clouds and pushing to the low - mid 80's by Monday.

We'll stop here and circle back on Friday afternoon with a better look at the weekend and early next week.
