Scattered Storms Thursday & Friday
Good afternoon folks! The forecast has changed slightly from our previous discussion with an uptick in shower activity Thursday and Friday, however the weekend and beyond will remain the same as we still expect more sun than clouds alongside isolated thunderstorms. Temps will be reasonable for early August as they hold to the low 80's Thursday and level out to the mid 80's Friday through Monday/Tuesday. All in all, we will slowly be returning to a normal late summer time setup as August and early September tend to be the driest months out of any given year.
Thursday and Friday remain muggy as southwest flow aloft continues pushing moisture into the region and when combined with an upper level trough and stalled front, the stage is set for showers and thunderstorms to develop just about anytime over the 48 hour period. We'll likely experience scattered showers as soon as midday on Thursday and perhaps 2 - 3pm on Friday. Overnight shower activity will also be a unique twist as most days showers fizzle out by the late evening hours, however this go around showers will continue into the pre dawn hours both nights. All of this sounds like a washout but instead its merely a soupy, muggy setup that will allow showers to develop at any given point in time; we do not expect continuous, widespread rainfall. Temps warm to the low 80's Thursday and mid 80's Friday with mostly cloudy skies overhead Thursday and partly sunny skies Friday; overnight lows in the low -mid 60's both nights.
The weekend looks great as drier air begins to move in as the upper level trough exits the region, with flat, zonal flow taking its place. It will still be a touch muggy but a step in the right direction that will result in more sunshine, less shower activity, and warmer temps. Mostly sunny skies setup shop each morning Saturday through Monday and isolated showers and thunderstorms develop during the mid afternoon hours, with temps in the mid 80's across the lower elevations. The models hint that a possible piece of energy could slide across the region anytime this weekend and early next week, resulting in scattered showers, but this should be short lived and nothing that will disrupt the new pattern.
We'll stop here and circle back on Friday with a better look at early next week.
