Daily Showers; Comfortable Temps

Good afternoon folks! We expect slightly cooler temps to occur Wednesday through Friday as shower chances increase due to an upper level trough and several passing shortwaves. The weekend will warm up by a degree or two and shower coverage will also wane slightly, but we still expect scattered showers each afternoon. Thus far the passing low pressure system to our west later this weekend looks to hold its ground on the models and keep widespread, heavy rain off to our west, but we'll still manage to pick up anywhere from 2 - 3" of rain beginning Tuesday afternoon, ending Sunday morning. Beyond the increased chances for rain this week, this should be a typical late July - early August setup the remainder of this week and weekend.

Wednesday through Friday will be our wettest days over the next five days, with Thursday the wettest day out of the bunch as widespread showers develop late in the day and spill over into the overnight hours. For Wednesday we'll start with fog in the valleys and some sunshine before noon once the fog lifts, but scattered thunderstorms will develop during the mid - late afternoon hours and this will help keep temps to the upper 60's - low 80's depending upon elevation. Overnight into Thursday shower coverage scales back only slightly and most of the action should occur before midnight, with temps settling into the low - upper 60's.

Thursday will be extremely muggy but temps will only manage to hit the upper 60's along the ridgelines and perhaps the 80°F mark across the valleys as we sit under mostly cloudy skies. Showers are possible throughout the morning hours but the main event will begin during the mid - late afternoon hours as a shortwave passes overhead, helping to extend coverage into the late evening hours. Eventually shower coverage will scale back to a handful of light showers, likely sometime during the early pre dawn hours and low temps will dip into the low - mid 60's.

The upper level trough that is bringing us two days of increased shower chances will lift to the northeast on Friday, but of course we'll experience scattered showers and thunderstorms similar to Wednesday before it fully exits the area. Temps will warm a degree or two over Thursday to the upper 60's - low 80's, with overnight lows in the low - mid 60's once again.

The weekend will be similar to last weekend in that we'll enjoy some sunshine before midday and showers and thunderstorms will fire up throughout the afternoon hours, fizzling out during the evening hours. There is likely to be some high, thin clouds passing overhead each morning, so don't be let down if you're wanting full on sunshine to build a tan or simply soak up the sun. Temps warm slightly to the mid 80's across the valleys, while the ridgelines push into the low 70's each afternoon.

We'll stop here and circle back on Thursday later in the day, with a focus on the weekend and early next week.
