Shower Coverage Peaks Thursday

Good afternoon folks! Not much will change over the next five days as we still expect active afternoons with showers and thunderstorms Wednesday through Friday, stepping back slightly Saturday and Sunday but returning to a muggy and active setup early next week. We have had a few days with temps touching or slightly surpassing the 90°F mark and this should end today (Tuesday) with temps in the mid - upper 80's Wednesday through Sunday. If you are hoping for even more rain then Wednesday and Thursday are your days, with coverage increasing to widespread, scaling back slightly on Friday. The weekend features a bit more sunshine with sunny skies possible all the way into the early - mid afternoon hours before scattered thunderstorms develop (as opposed to the midday cloud cover as of late). We'll return to an active setup early next week with daily thunderstorms returning Monday.

As the overall flow transitions to the northwest beginning Wednesday we'll see an uptick in both cloud cover and shower activity, starting as early as the late morning hours along the highest peaks. A disturbance passes through on Thursday, translating to peak coverage of showers and thunderstorms for the week, likely becoming widespread by the early afternoon hours. Max temps for both days warm to the low 70's - mid 80's depending upon elevation. Overnight lows settle back into the upper 60's with isolated showers possible Wednesday night, while scattered showers continue well into the evening hours on Thursday. All of SW NC stands a chance at picking up 0.75 - 1" of rain Wednesday morning into Thursday evening.

Friday will feel more like Tuesday with a sunny morning after a foggy start for the valleys, quickly overtaken by thunderstorms as they develop during the early afternoon hours. Temps will be able to push into the upper 80's for an hour or two across the lower elevations, settling back into the upper 60's overnight into Saturday under partly cloudy skies.

The weekend looks agreeable for those wanting more time in the sun but keep in mind thunderstorms are still in play each afternoon, developing during the mid - late afternoon hours as opposed to right after lunch. Temps warm to the low - mid 70's along the ridgelines while the valleys warm to the upper 80's with no threat of reaching 90°F.

We'll stop here and circle back on Thursday with a better look at early next week.
