Showers Monday through Wednesday

Good afternoon folks! We're in for a round of scattered thunderstorms today (Sunday), with a slight uptick in coverage on Monday, followed by region wide showers Tuesday as a front approaches the area, crossing Wednesday morning. The front is likely to stall nearby for a short spell Wednesday, setting up another round of scattered thunderstorms during the afternoon and it will scoot off to the east Thursday due to an upper level trough swinging into the area. This will translate to abundant sunshine and slightly lower dewpoints, but this will be short lived as we slowly return to the summertime norm of isolated to scattered afternoon showers Friday and Saturday. Temps will hold to normal levels across the region all week long, mainly because of shower activity and increased cloud cover and it looks like we'll make a return to the mid - upper 80's by Friday or next weekend. All in all, a wet start to the week with shower activity continuing each afternoon into Wednesday, drying out Thursday into Friday.

Scattered showers and thunderstorms will fire up this afternoon across the highest ridgelines and slowly propagate east, putting all of SW NC in play, with coverage taking till the late evening hours to fizzle out. Temps have already warmed to the 80's across the lower elevations, while the ridgelines make a run at the low 70's, followed by overnight lows in the upper 50's - low 60's as cloud cover lingers from expiring showers.

Monday and Wednesday will be similar as shower coverage relies upon pop ups, while Tuesday is slightly more organized with a line of storms and showers after midday as the front approaches from the west. Monday's shower activity will take most of the day to fire up, much like Sunday, whereas Wednesday's action will begin shortly after midday due to excess moisture levels lingering in the post frontal airmass. Rainfall totals will tally up to 0.75 - 1.5" across the region over the three day period, most of this falling on Tuesday. Temps will be the warmest on Monday but only by a degree or two due to a sunny start, with temps in the low 80's all three days across the lower elevations; upper 60's for the ridgelines. Overnight lows will continue to settle into the upper 50's - low 60's each night under partly - mostly cloudy skies.

Thursday will be a welcomed change with sunny skies overhead, a stiff NW breeze and lower dewpoints to create ideal late June conditions with temps in the mid 60's along the ridgelines and low 80's across the valley. If you are trying to pick a day to hit the water, Thursday is your day as shower activity looks almost zero and there will be ample sunshine. Friday introduces isolated showers and thunderstorms, but the vast majority of SW NC will remain dry as the action looks to be confined to the ridgelines.

We'll stop here and circle back on Tuesday. Stay dry out there!
