Gorgeous Weekend: Cooler by Tuesday
Good afternoon folks! Summer like conditions are upon us and the weekend ahead looks fantastic as temps push into the low - mid 80's across the valleys! Shower chances slowly increase with each passing day but coverage remains fairly low through Sunday, with the only threat being pop up showers closer to sunset on Sunday. Scattered thunderstorms develop Monday afternoon and continue into the evening hours as a front sweeps across the region. An upper level low moves into the area Tuesday and will wobble overhead for the next several days, bringing back below normal temps as light - moderate showers pepper the landscape Tuesday through Thursday. This upper level low is likely to exit just in time for next weekend, but like with any upper level low, they are likely to surprise and details remain slightly murky till roughly 24 - 48 hours out. Overall, a gorgeous summer like weekend lies ahead and we'll cool down a bit by the middle of next week as shower chances pick up beginning Monday afternoon.
We'll start out the timeline on Saturday with mostly sunny skies overhead as high pressure influences the region and temps will respond, rising to the upper 60's - low 80's depending upon elevation. A few clouds will develop late and an isolated shower or two is also likely, more so for the Great Balsams or TN line, but all precip will end shortly after sunset. Overnight lows settle into the low - upper 50's under partly cloudy skies.
Sunday pushes temps a bit further into the upper 60's - mid 80's under another round of mostly sunny skies, although there is a better chance for a pop up thunderstorm or two just about anywhere across SW NC after 3pm. Shower coverage will linger into the evening hours but clear up well before midnight, allowing temps to dip into the low - upper 50's once again.
Monday brings us increasing clouds before noon and scattered thunderstorms closer to sunset, capping temps to the mid 60's - upper 70's depending upon elevation. The front will cross the region just before sunset and shower activity will continue well into the evening hours, not really fizzling out but instead scaling back to isolated showers past midnight.
Tuesday through Thursday looks like a wet three days with scattered to widespread showers peppering the landscape as the upper level low wobbles overhead. Temps will struggle to rise past the mid 50's along the ridgelines, while the valleys only warm to the upper 60's - low 70's. This forecast period is likely to change as we near the event, so be sure to check back in when we circle back on Sunday with our next update. Enjoy the weekend!
