Early Summer Conditions this Weekend
Good afternoon folks! Looking at the remainder of the week it seems temps will warm up to early summer levels starting Thursday, peaking this weekend to the low - mid 80's and cooling down to normal levels by the middle of next week. Some clouds will stream overhead Thursday and clear out by Friday, with a chance for isolated showers on Saturday as a low pressure system develops off the coast and drags a weak front through the region. Instability increases Sunday and a few thunderstorms are likely, but the main event will be on Monday as a front crosses the region and takes advantage of the increasing instability with scattered thunderstorms throughout the afternoon hours. Fair weather with isolated pop up showers return by Tuesday and Wednesday of next week.
Thursday kicks off the day with temps in 50's across the region, warming to the low 60's - mid 70's depending upon elevation by the late afternoon hours, all under high clouds. Isolated showers are possible but most of the action will be confined to the TN line as an upper level wave passes just north of the region. Partly to mostly cloudy skies (southeast to northwest) will sit overhead Thursday night and temps are expected to settle into the upper 40's - low 50's.
Friday starts off a bit cloudy but mostly sunny skies take over and temps respond, pushing into the mid 60's along the ridgelines while the valleys come close to 80°F. Overnight lows dip into the low - mid 50's under mostly clear skies.
Saturday should be dry but a weak front will cross the region and an isolated shower or two is possible, with most of the region experiencing mostly sunny skies. Moisture fills in overnight and humid conditions setup shop by Sunday, with instability on the rise that will result in pop up thunderstorms; again, most of the region will experience sunshine expect for those under a pop up shower. Temps will soar to the low - mid 80's both days across the lower elevations and overnight lows will settle into the mid - upper 50's. Sunday night in particular is likely to bring us scattered light showers as southerly flow increases ahead of the approaching front, but nothing too substantial as models show a tenth - quarter inch of rain by Monday morning.
Scattered thunderstorms are likely Monday afternoon, highs in the mid 60's - upper 70's and sunshine returns on Tuesday, with temps cooling down slightly to the upper 50's - low 70's.
We'll stop here and circle back on Friday with more details on the shower activity slated for Sunday and Monday. Enjoy the warmer temps!
