Good morning folks! Above normal temps will continue into the start of the week, peaking on Wednesday with temps running 10 - 13 degrees above average for early April. We'll experience a few pop up showers Sunday and Monday afternoon, followed by widespread showers late Tuesday into the pre dawn hours on Wednesday. A second round of region wide rain swings through the region quickly Thursday afternoon and evening, clearing out just in time for a sunny end to the work week. The models show a decent chance for below normal temps this upcoming weekend, but nothing too cold, just a handful of degrees below normal with a slight chance for patchy frost.
We round out the weekend today with passing high clouds and late day pop up showers, accompanied by a slight chance for a thunderstorm or two across the highest ridgelines. Temps will reach the mid - upper 50's along the ridgelines, warming to the low 70's across the valleys. This is roughly 6 - 8 degrees above normal as average high temps for the valleys in early April are in the mid 60's. Overnight lows dip into the mid - upper 40's as clouds clear the area tonight.
We start the work week with temps pushing to the low 60's - mid 70's across the area under a mix of high clouds, a few hours of sunshine and another day of pop up showers after 3 - 4pm. Shower chances linger overnight into Tuesday as moisture increases across the area, helping to cap temps to the low - mid 50's.
Tuesday features late day showers as a cold front sweeps the region closer to sunset, prompting widespread showers across the area that will amount to a half inch for all of SW NC. Temps will cool down a bit compared to Monday, climbing to the upper 50's - low 70's depending upon elevation. Shower activity rolls into the evening and carries over into the pre dawn hours, eventually fizzling out by sunrise on Wednesday.
As the front pushes east throughout the day on Wednesday we'll enjoy a surge of warm air from the south, allowing temps to reach the low - mid 60's along the ridgelines and upper 70's across the valleys! It's also likely we'll enjoy several hours of sunshine after midday, but this is contingent on the front exiting on time, so take this with a grain of salt.
More rain moves through on Thursday due to a late day frontal passage and much like Wednesday, showers will end early on Friday, setting up a sunny end to the work week. Sunshine is likely to carry into the weekend but temps will drop from the upper 50's - low 70's Thursday to the mid 40's - upper 50's by Saturday.
We'll circle back on Tuesday with a more detailed discussion for the end of the week and weekend.
