Heavy Rain Tuesday Night; 80's on Friday!

Good afternoon folks! Since we are halfway through the day on Monday, we'll focus the discussion from Tuesday into Saturday. Showers are expected to return to the region late Tuesday afternoon and peak overnight into Wednesday morning, with only a few light showers lingering the rest of the day. Sunshine returns Thursday and with it our first real warm spell of the season as temps push into the mid - upper 70's Thursday, breaking into the 80's by Friday! High clouds will enter the region Friday and the models point to a possible light rain event Saturday, but we'll wait another day or two before committing.

Tuesday will be a typical spring day with a foggy start for the valleys and clouds will continue to linger across the region as moisture pushes northward. Showers will develop sometime after 3pm but really ramp up just after sunset as a front pushes into the region, crossing the area sometime after midnight. Temps will warm to the mid 50's - low 60's depending upon elevation and settle into the upper 40's - mid 50's overnight as the heavier rain crosses the region. We expect another inch of rain for all of SW NC between Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday late morning, with the bulk of that falling around midnight. It's likely the escarpment area pushes past an inch and reaches the 1.5" mark by midday Wednesday.

Wednesday will start off wet and a few isolated showers are likely till midday, then becoming a possibility as we move through the afternoon hours. Some sunshine will break out an hour or two before sunset as drier air filters into the region from the west. Temps will continue their climb as they reach the mid 50's - upper 60's depending upon elevation, falling into the upper 30's - low 40's overnight under clearing skies.

Thursday and Friday will be gorgeous and I'm sure many of us will take advantage of the warmer weather by taking a walk or working around the yard. Temps will reach the low 60's along the ridgelines, while the valleys warm to the mid - upper 70's Thursday afternoon, pushing even further into the upper 60's - low 80's on Friday! Sunny skies play out on Thursday, while high clouds stream into the region on Friday ahead of the approaching front that could bring us spotty showers this weekend.

I understand I have failed many of you with not being consistent with the discussions and also allowing the stations to go unattended and do wish to apologize. There is no excuse but do know I am trying my best to juggle this new norm we are living in and that my passion for weather in SW NC remains the same as it ever was and that one day soon everything will return to some semblance of normal. Thank you to those who have reached out and I hope everyone is doing well.
