Showers Return Late Monday

Good afternoon folks! We are enjoying a sunny day across the region and fair weather will continue into Sunday, although high clouds will move in tonight to setup a partly sunny end to the weekend. Clouds clear out late Sunday night but fill back in early Monday afternoon as moisture increases across the Southeast, setting the stage for isolated showers closer to sunset on Monday. Isolated showers continue into Tuesday, ramping up to widespread by the late afternoon/early evening hours as a cold front approaches the region. The front is expected to cross the region Tuesday night and showers will wind down Wednesday morning. Confidence in the forecast goes downhill starting Thursday as the models continue to go back and forth as to whether or not we'll experience wintry precip late next week. At this point in time the trend is for a dry setup late next week but we'll keep a close eye on this time frame and forecast passing high clouds for Thursday and Friday.

Temps Sunday will warm to the upper 30's along the ridgelines, while the valleys push into the low - mid 50's under high, passing clouds. Clouds thicken Sunday night and temps will hold to the low - upper 30's across the region.

We'll enjoy some sunshine Monday morning as clouds clear out but this will be very short lived as clouds move back in Monday mid afternoon. Isolated showers are likely to develop late Monday afternoon, first along the SC state line, expanding across the rest of the region as we enter the evening hours. Scattered showers dot the landscape overnight into Tuesday and temps will go from the upper 40's - mid 50's Monday afternoon to the low - mid 40's Monday night.

Tuesday into Wednesday will be the wettest part of the week due to a front crossing the region from the west and at this point in time it seems the passage will occur during the late evening hours. We expect scattered showers to ramp up to widespread coverage by the late afternoon hours and there is no concern for flooding or heavy rainfall with this system. Temps will warm to the low - upper 50's Tuesday but cool down to the upper 30's - low 50's Wednesday.

Temps look even cooler for late next week with highs in the upper 20's - low 40's depending upon elevation. At this point in time we are gong with passing clouds Thursday and Friday but stay tuned as the models could very well adjust course and push the trend toward a wintry setup. We'll circle back with a new discussion Monday morning.
