Fairly Quiet through Saturday

Good afternoon folks! A quick look at Wednesday night as this will likely be the coldest night we have seen in weeks, with temps dipping into the upper teens - low 20's across the region. If you live above 3500' prepare for wind chill values in the single digits as winds gust to 30mph. Sunshine remains overhead Thursday, with a slight uptick in clouds Friday but we're still calling for mostly sunny skies to end the week. Clouds begin to ramp up Friday night as moisture associated with the low pressure system along the Gulf Coast spins our way, resulting in a mostly cloudy day on Saturday. It's not set in stone, but the chance for light showers is on the rise for Saturday night into Sunday, possible Monday morning. This event will be all rain and short lived, with dry weather returning to the region late Monday or at the latest, Tuesday morning. Temps remain a degree or two below normal Thursday, but slowly uptick as we move into next week, soaring to the upper 50's - low 60's by Monday and Tuesday. A quick peek at Christmas Day shows temps in the 60's with high clouds; take this with a grain of salt this far out in time.

Thursday keeps sunshine overhead and brings temps to the upper 30's - upper 40's depending upon elevation, with overnight lows settling back into the low - upper 20's under clear skies. It's likely the valleys are colder than the ridgelines Friday morning due to ideal radiational cooling conditions.

Friday keeps fair weather overhead with mostly sunny skies across the region and temps warm a degree or two over Thursday, reaching the low 50's in the valleys. Clouds slowly build Friday night as moisture from the low pressure along the Gulf Coast pushes northward into the area. Temps will hold to the upper 20's - mid 30's depending upon elevation.

Saturday is not the most inspiring of days but at least it'll be dry with mostly cloudy skies overhead and temps capped to the mid 40's - low 50's depending upon elevation. An isolated shower or two is possible before sunset for the N GA and SC state lines as upslope enhancement begins, with coverage remaining isolated through the night; low temps in the mid - upper 30's.

Sunday features spotty showers throughout the day under cloudy skies that will conspire to keep temps to the mid 40's - low 50's. Shower activity should move east of the region sometime Monday and sunshine is quick to return, with an upper level ridge setting up shop Tuesday into Wednesday. This will be the mechanism that keeps dry weather overhead into Christmas Day, in addition to bringing temps roughly 10 - 12 degrees above average!

Our next discussion will come out Friday, till then enjoy the sunshine!
