Soggy Travel Day; A Sunny Thanksgiving

Good afternoon folks! Confidence in the forecast Tuesday through Friday is high and although we have a handle on what the weekend will bring us, the details are a bit fuzzy at this time. Tuesday brings us late day clouds and showers arrive around sunrise Wednesday, exiting before the mid afternoon hours. A sunny day is on tap for Thanksgiving, while Friday offers up increasing clouds, although they seem to be more of the high level variety with periods of sun, so not a total loss of a day. The forecast is not as clear as we enter the weekend, but we do know a second frontal passage will occur and we expect another round of rain Saturday into Sunday, followed by a possible NW flow snow event early next week; take that last bit with a huge grain of salt. If you are traveling on Wednesday, the driest period will be after 2 - 3pm and the return trip home will be soggy if you leave late Saturday.

We'll enjoy temps in the low 60's across the valleys tomorrow as mostly sunny skies sit overhead, while the ridgelines climb to the upper 40's. High clouds move in closer to sunset and cloudy skies remain overhead all night, capping temps to the mid - upper 40's across the region. Isolated showers are possible after midnight but the bulk of the action will arrive around sunrise, pushing east across the region as the day moves along, ending sometime during the mid afternoon hours. Temps will actually be warmer than Tuesday as SW flow provides us with afternoon highs in the mid 50's along the ridgelines and mid 60's across the valleys. Clouds clear out Wednesday night and temps drop to the low - upper 30's depending upon elevation, alongside a stiff westerly wind around 10 - 20mph. Generally a half inch up to an inch of rain is possible across SW NC, however the higher amounts will be isolated and confined to the TN line and nearby SW facing ridgelines.

Thanksgiving Day looks ideal with temps in the upper 40's - low 60's depending upon elevation, all under mostly sunny skies. As another front approaches from the west, southerly flow picks up and clouds fill back in Thursday night, capping temps to the low - mid 40's.

Friday features partly sunny skies, an isolated shower or two along the highest ridgelines and widespread showers return sometime Saturday afternoon. It's likely showers wrap up Sunday early afternoon and the models hint at a possible NW flow snow event Sunday night into Monday.
