Fair Weather Tuesday through Friday

Good morning folks! This past weekend has been humbling as we enjoyed sunny and warmer temps, while those in the Bahamas continue to deal with a record breaking Hurricane Dorian as it developed into a category 5 monster, currently stalled over the Bahamas as of Monday morning. SW NC will not be impacted by the tropical system as it eventually migrates up the eastern seaboard, hugging the coast at times, providing our region with sunny skies and slightly warmer than average temps. A weak front will swing through late Wednesday evening and offer up a few showers, while high clouds on Thursday make up the rest of the action this week. Generally temps will climb to the low - mid 80's each afternoon across the valleys, followed by overnight lows in the upper 50's - low 60's, which for early September is a degree or two warmer than average.

Tuesday and Wednesday offer up sunny skies, however by the late afternoon hours on Wednesday a few clouds will develop, followed by isolated showers Wednesday evening as the front moves across the region. Some clouds will linger overnight into Thursday morning, but for the most part the next two days will be quiet with temps rising to the mid 80's each afternoon, falling to the low 60's each night; ridgelines will experience high temps in the upper 60's - low 70's, with overnight lows in the upper 50's.

Thursday through Saturday keeps sunny skies overhead and temps cool down a degree or two compared to Tuesday and Wednesday, climbing to the upper 60's - low 80's depending upon elevation. It's likely we'll experience a few hours of high clouds on Thursday and northerly winds around 10 - 20mph are possible along the ridgelines Thursday afternoon as Hurricane Dorian brushes past the NC coastline.

The models hint at increasing shower chances next Sunday into early next week, but for now we will let the models work out the details and report back Wednesday afternoon with a detailed look at the upcoming weekend.
