Near Perfect Weather Thur - Sat
Good afternoon folks! Cloud cover is beginning to wane a bit as we type this discussion and shower coverage has scaled back to isolated, which should last through the night and into Wednesday. We'll enjoy a bit more sunshine tomorrow morning than what we experienced today and with a front moving in from the west, we expect a round of scattered showers after midday. Clouds and moisture levels quickly dry out Wednesday night, setting up a gorgeous stretch of days with sunny skies overhead and temps climbing to normal levels. Fair weather will hold firm from Thursday into Saturday, which will allow for a hassle free tailgate and football game at Western, followed by clouds and moisture levels slowly increasing as we move into Sunday and Labor Day. Past Monday of next week the models point at an increase in shower activity and if Dorian (currently a Tropical Storm) comes close enough, we could see coverage increasing but for now it looks like scattered showers at best Tuesday.
Wednesday will be muggy but not oppressive as temps reach the upper 60's along the ridgelines, warming to the low 80's throughout the valleys. A mix of sunshine and clouds sit overhead before noon with scattered showers sweeping the region around 2 - 4pm and once we enter the evening hours, clearing skies take over. Temps will drop to the upper 40's - mid 50's depending upon elevation overnight and with a northerly wind around 5 - 10mph it will feel a bit like fall.
Thursday through Saturday looks gorgeous with sunny skies overhead and lower than normal moisture levels, however temps will reach the low 70's - mid 80's all three days, with Saturday likely the warmest of the three days by a degree or two. Overnight lows will settle into the low - upper 50's each night under mostly clear skies, with Friday night in particular the clearest of the three nights as high pressure system sits directly overhead; a great setup for stargazing/photography.
If you have outdoor plans for this holiday weekend, keep them as the only thing that will put a damper on plans are light - moderate isolated showers or perhaps some high, thin clouds late Sunday and Monday. Temps hold to the low 70's - mid 80's depending upon elevation each afternoon and due to easterly flow setting up shop late Sunday, the best chance for showers will be along the SC state line.
We'll circle back Friday afternoon and focus on the holiday weekend but also a look into early next week and what possible impact Dorian could have for the Carolinas or SW NC (nothing major or significant is expected at this time).
