Downright Perfect for late July

July 23, 2019

Good afternoon folks! As we are typing this discussion the rain is coming to an end and only an isolated light shower or short lived period of drizzle is expected into the late evening hours. As the dry and cool air mass swings overhead tonight, we'll cloud cover clear out and wake up to a gorgeous start to the day Wednesday morning. It will feel almost fall like and this gorgeous weather will linger into Friday, with moisture levels and temps returning to normal by Sunday afternoon. The ridgelines above 6000' are likely to hit the upper 40's Tuesday and Wednesday nights and for the most part everywhere across SW NC will be roughly 4 - 6 degrees below normal Wednesday into Thursday. Sunshine dominates the forecast Wednesday through Saturday, with pop up shower chances returning Sunday.

Temps Wednesday climb to the low 60's along the ridgelines, warming to the upper 70's across the valleys but with dewpoints in the 50's it will feel much cooler, especially with NE winds around 5 - 15mph; sunny skies overhead all day. Clear skies Wednesday night allow temps to dip into the upper 40's - mid 50's depending upon elevation.

Thursday through Saturday will keep the fair weather train moving along as we transition from sunny skies Thursday to mostly sunny skies Saturday due to a slight uptick in moisture with each passing day. Temps Thursday reach the mid 60's - low 80's and eventually warm to the upper 60's - mid 80's by Saturday, with overnight lows in the mid 50's - low 60's each night.

Sunday into early next week should bring us normal weather for late July with enough moisture in the air to fire up thunderstorms after midday, after temps reach the low 70's - mid 80's depending upon elevation.

Our next discussion will come out Thursday afternoon and we'll focus on the last gasp of below normal temps, with a look at the weekend and early next week.
