A Typical Summertime Setup

June 16, 2019

Good afternoon folks! We are closing out the weekend on a pleasant note and looking at the week ahead, we expect a typical summertime setup with muggy humidity levels and a mix of sun and afternoon thunderstorms through at least Thursday. A front may bring us some dry weather closer to next weekend, but nothing to write home about, perhaps just enough to give us break from the constant afternoon/evening shower development. Temps Monday through Thursday will be slightly warm but nothing to crazy for mid June as they climb to the upper 60's along the ridgelines and hit the low - mid 80's throughout the lower elevations. It seems Tuesday afternoon and Thursday evening will be our wettest periods, however thunderstorms are likely each afternoon.

Monday and Tuesday deal with a series of passing disturbances, one on Monday that should come close enough to fire up scattered to widespread showers and thunderstorms. The one on Tuesday may be slightly stronger and the ingredients for strong to severe storms more readily available than on Monday. Temps hit the low 80's each afternoon but they'll feel like the mid - upper 80's as southerly flow overhead keeps our region well supplied with moisture; upper 60's for the ridgelines. Overnight lows settle into the low - mid 60's across the entire region each night and Tuesday night will keep isolated showers going well past sunset, while Monday night features coverage fizzling out before midnight.

Wednesday should be our driest day, but we still expect pop up showers and a few thunderstorms and Thursday late in the day into the evening hours shows coverage blossoming to region wide. Much like Tuesday night, both Wednesday and Thursday nights will keep shower activity alive and Thursday night in particular will feature thunderstorms well past midnight. Temps once again hit the upper 60's - low 80's and due to cloudy skies, stronger storms and a slightly prolonged stretch of rain, Thursday may be our coolest day of the week as temps struggle to climb past 80°F in the valleys.

Our next discussion will come out Wednesday afternoon and focus on the change in the pattern for later in the week and also a look at the weekend.
