Light at the End of the Tunnel

June 9, 2019

Good afternoon folks! It sure has been a soggy weekend and looking ahead it seems the abundant moisture stream will continue into at least Wednesday, with scattered showers and thunderstorms each day. We have not hit the forecasted totals along the escarpment, but we are close and elsewhere across SW NC we are on track with 2 - 4" already in the bucket since last Wednesday. Another 1 - 2" is possible for the majority of SW NC, while another 2 - 3" is likely for the N GA and SC state lines, where anywhere from 4.5 - 6.25" has fallen since Wednesday. Temps will warm to near normal levels Monday but cool down to the low - mid 70's Wednesday across the lower elevations, eventually returning to normal levels by next weekend. There is light at the end of the tunnel due to a cold front late in the week ushering in drier air and sunshine starting Friday, setting up an ideal weekend.

Temps Monday climb to the mid 60's - upper 70's depending upon elevation and scattered thunderstorms are likely around midday, waning in coverage past the mid afternoon hours. Overnight into Tuesday features scattered showers with moderate - heavy rainfall rates that will track across the region out of the southwest, providing us with 0.5 - 1.5" of rain for the day; temps settle into the upper 50's - low 60's.

Tuesday's rain chances will be scaled back slightly to scattered pop up showers as southwest flow remains across the region. By Wednesday high pressure will setup a light wedge across our region, allowing spotty light showers to develop but we don't expect much to fall. Temps Tuesday hit low 60's - mid 70's and cool down a degree or two on Wednesday, with overnight lows in the low - upper 50's.

Sunshine and drier air may arrive Thursday, but shouldn't hold out any longer than Friday, setting up a pleasant end to the week. We'll post our next discussion Tuesday and focus on the upcoming dry pattern and warming temps.
