The Heat Wave Continues

Good afternoon folks! Not much to talk about in this discussion as sunny skies and near to record breaking heat persist across the Southeast. Although we may be roasting in the valleys with temps in the upper 80's - low 90's, remember it could be worse as our neighbors across the Piedmont flirt with the 100°F mark! Isolated showers are possible each afternoon, but we'll emphasis the word possible as maybe one or two could develop and it's more than likely they develop along ridgelines, not providing any relief for the populated areas. Late next week a cold front may bring us some rain but since we are talking next Friday/Saturday time frame, we'll only mention it at this point in time.

Temps this weekend will continue to push into the low - mid 70's along the ridgelines (above 5500'), while the valleys simmer as temps reach the upper 80's - low 90's Saturday, Sunday and Memorial Day (Monday). Mostly sunny skies will be overhead each afternoon and as we mentioned above, an isolated shower or thunderstorm is possible each day, but don't count on it providing any relief from the heat. Overnight lows will settle into the upper 50's - mid 60's for most of the region each night as mostly clear skies sit overhead.

We hit the repeat button for Tuesday and Wednesday, however Thursday into late next week may bring temps down into the upper 60's - mid 80's as the upper level ridge breaks down. This is also when a possible cold front swings through the area, one that could provide us with showers but we'll stop there to not inflict whiplash in case it fades away on the models as we head into next week.

Since this is a holiday weekend, take a moment to remember why some of us have time off from work and school to be with family and friends. From those of us at Local Yokel Weather, we thank all military service members but we also continue to honor those who have died while serving.

Our next discussion will come out on Tuesday afternoon.
