Dry-ish Weather Returns Monday
Good afternoon folks! We are posting this discussion as a band of strong thunderstorms move through the region, but a lull should occur before sunset. A second round moves through tonight as a front migrates northeast, followed by another round of scattered showers/thunderstorms Sunday afternoon. Dry air should begin to undercut the lingering instability late Sunday, setting up more sun than clouds for Monday and Tuesday. Although early next week features sunshine, the likelihood thunderstorms pop up each afternoon remain high, especially for locations along and near the SC state line. Southerly flow will really ramp up by mid week, setting the table for another round of strong thunderstorms either late Wednesday or Thursday. Temps all the while will go from the mid - upper 70's Sunday to the upper 70's - low 80's Monday through Wednesday, cooling a few degrees late next week, but either way you slice it, above average temps will continue across the mountains.
Sunday brings us a dying band of showers early in the morning, followed by scattered thunderstorms later in the day due to an upper level piece of energy moving overhead. This will keep more clouds than sun overhead, allowing us to go from an overnight low in the low - upper 50's to the low 60's - mid 70's by Sunday afternoon. Rainfall totals will exceed a half inch Sunday for most of the region and some spots may pick up an inch or so as strong thunderstorms remain a possibility. Temps dip into the upper 40's - mid 50's Sunday night under clearing skies.
Sunshine will dominate the sky Monday and Tuesday, with some clouds developing late as isolated thunderstorms fire up each afternoon; slightly higher on coverage on Tuesday. Temps climb to the mid - upper 60's along the ridgelines and upper 70's - low 80's across the valleys, flirting with the mid 80's on Tuesday.
As we mentioned above, southerly flow will ramp up Wednesday and we'll notice an uptick in humidity levels Tuesday night, with scattered to widespread thunderstorms possible before sunset on Wednesday; temps in the upper 70's - low 80's. The timing of the frontal passage is up in the air, with some models pointing to a Thursday passage, while others say Wednesday. Stay tuned as we wait a couple of days to nail down the timing, with our next discussion coming out Monday afternoon.
