Showers Sunday into Tuesday
Good afternoon folks! We picked up an inch of rain for areas closer to the N GA and SC state lines with the rest of SW NC closing in on a half inch of rain from our latest round of rain. Tonight into Saturday should be dry but showers return late Sunday, with an increase in coverage on Monday that will limit our time outside. Showers are expected to wind down Tuesday with another stretch of dry weather Wednesday into Friday of next week. Temps all the while will remain in the upper 60's - mid 70's for the valleys with overnight lows well above freezing for all of SW NC; no worry about frost for the next 7 nights.
Temps tonight dip into the mid 40's across the higher elevations, while the valleys settle into the low 50's under clearing skies. Saturday will feature more sunshine than previously forecasted, with high clouds likely across the SC state line as we near sunset, mainly due to the increase in southerly flow ahead of our next rain event. Temps Saturday will respond to the sunshine with temps hitting the upper 70's in the valleys and low 60's along the ridgelines, dipping back into the upper 40's - mid 50's Saturday night under increasing clouds.
Sunday will not be a washout, in fact we could start the day with a mixed bag of sun and clouds but cloudy skies will eventually take over and isolated thunderstorms will develop after midday, increasing to scattered coverage overnight into Monday. Temps Sunday hold to the upper 50's - mid 70's and only dip into the low - upper 50's Sunday night.
Monday and Tuesday will be very spring like as we experience temps in the mid - upper 50's along the ridgelines and low - mid 70's for the valleys, all the while scattered showers and thunderstorms push across the region. This all stems from an upper level low moving across the region, which is likely to spin up several thunderstorms Monday afternoon, with peak coverage during the evening hours, winding down Tuesday morning. Showers may linger into Tuesday afternoon, but for the most part the main event will be over and clearing skies take over Tuesday night.
Sunshine is expected for Wednesday and Thursday, with the possibility for cloudy skies on Friday as we look ahead at our next rain event arriving late next week. We'll stop here and return with our next discussion Sunday afternoon, focusing on the threat for severe weather Monday and the following rain even late next week.
