Heavy Rain Shifts to Friday

Good Afternoon Folks! Isolated light showers will continue to pepper the area this afternoon, with coverage increasing tonight into Thursday morning. Shower coverage will wind down a bit Thursday but pick up late Thursday night and peak in coverage Friday afternoon, ending early Saturday morning. There is a small chance for light snow early Saturday morning for the TN line and perhaps flurries as far south as Maggie Valley or Waynesville, but nothing to write home about. Sunshine returns this weekend and fair weather should extend into Monday, with another passing round of showers scheduled to arrive sometime Tuesday. Temps will be in the mid 50's for the remainder of the week, warming to the upper 50's - low 60's this weekend for the lower elevations, while the ridgelines stay above freezing but remain chilly with temps in the 40's.

Temps will dip into the low - mid 40's tonight as widespread showers pass through after midnight, dropping anywhere from a half inch up to an inch and a half. With the overall flow out of the southwest, the higher amounts will be closer to the N GA line.

Showers wind down Thursday morning as the upper level piece of energy moves to the east, with isolated showers possible throughout the day, under mostly cloudy skies that should hold temps to the mid 40's - low 50's depending upon elevation; a dreary day indeed. Isolated showers continue past sunset and coverage is expected to become widespread after midnight, with intensities picking up to moderate and heavy at times as we approach the early afternoon hours on Friday. Temps rise to the upper 40's - mid 50's and rainfall totals will push into the 2 - 3" range for most of the region, with showers winding down closer to midnight. Temps overnight into Friday fall into the low - upper 30's and winds will pick up out of the NW, setting a brief window for light NW flow snow to occur during the pre dawn hours on Saturday.

Drying quickly ensues Saturday morning and sunshine takes over, not stepping down till Monday, providing us with a much needed dry weekend. Temps will be above average as they hit the upper 50's - low 60's across the valleys, but even the ridgelines warm up nicely, hitting the upper 40's - low 50's. Overnight lows this weekend should dip into the upper 20's - mid 30's with frost forming Sunday and Monday mornings.

Check back in Friday morning for our next update. Enjoy the rain!
