Soaking Rains; Warming Temps
Good Afternoon Folks! Clouds have filled in across the region and isolated showers have begun to push into the area from the southwest. Light showers will continue to pepper the region through the night and morning hours on Friday, with coverage waning as we enter the late afternoon hours. Coverage picks back up late Saturday morning, becoming widespread by the afternoon hours and winding down once again sometime Sunday morning. A third round of rain will move through the region late Sunday night and Monday, with a series of additional systems bringing more rain to the region Tuesday and Wednesday. The only silver lining to the on and off shower activity is that temps will finally warm up, pushing to the upper 50's both Friday and Saturday and peaking to the upper 60's Sunday due to southerly flow! Temps cool down to the low 60's Monday and eventually return to the mid - upper 40's by the middle of next week.
Temps tonight dip into the low 40's for most of the region with rainfall totals under a tenth of an inch. Cloudy skies continue to sit overhead Friday with temps climbing to the upper 50's and the light shower activity should wind down Friday morning, only to pick back up late Friday night; although only isolated showers develop. Coverage ramps up to widespread by the mid afternoon hours on Saturday but temps manage to push into the upper 50's for the valley and low 50's for the ridgelines, all due to southerly flow. Rainfall totals will average out to a half inch for most of the region and don't be surprised if a thunderstorm develops as minor instability lingers across the eastern sections of the area. Overnight lows both Friday and Saturday night settle into the mid - upper 40's, with showers winding down by sunrise Sunday.
Sunday features a period of sunshine to start the day as drier air rushes in behind the departing system, however as we mentioned above, another system pushes in later that night and carries into Monday. The models are not set in stone at this point in time, so the timing could shift forward or backward 12 hours and they also hint at another clipper system swinging through Tuesday. Temps Sunday will soar into the upper 60's, reminding us of what Fall used to feel like and temps gradually cool down to the low 60's Monday and upper 40's Tuesday.
Our next discussion will come out Saturday morning and focus on the timing of the systems swinging through sometime late Sunday through Wednesday.
