A Quick Shot of Rain and Snow
Good Morning Folks! We wrap up the weekend today with slowly lifting fog before midday, a few hours of sunshine and then a round of precip tonight into Monday morning. Temps will drop below freezing for the TN line above 5500' tomorrow morning and kick rain over to snow, with accumulations under an inch in the highest spots (not much to speak of). Sunshine moves in Tuesday and lingers into part of Friday with another round of precip crossing the region Friday into Saturday. Temps all the while will be below normal but not near record levels, with a silver lining that Cataloochee Ski Area will have roughly 2 - 3 days and nights to make snow this week.
Temps max out to the upper 40's on the ridgelines to the low 60's in the valleys this afternoon, settling into the low - upper 30's tonight. Clouds move in late this afternoon and light showers sweep the region closer to midnight, carrying over into Monday morning, although coverage will quickly dry up from the SC state line to the TN line before midday Monday. Isolated showers linger along the TN line due to WNW flow setting up shop across the region and temps support light snow showers across the ridgelines till late in the day Monday. Temps tomorrow will be noticeably colder as they struggle to reach the low - mid 40's across the lower elevations and actually begin to fall along the ridgelines after peaking to the upper 30's before midday. Clear skies and windy conditions move in quickly Monday evening with NW winds around 10 - 15mph, gusting to 35mph across the higher elevations and temps drop to the low - upper 20's across the region.
Tuesday through Thursday features sunny skies with temps warming from the low 30's - low 40's Tuesday to the low 40's - mid 50's Thursday;. Overnight lows plummet to the mid teens - low 20's Tuesday night and gradually warm to the low - mid 30's by Thursday night.
The models point to a round of precip developing as early as Thursday night or as late as Friday afternoon, possibly extending into Sunday morning. We are not certain when showers will develop but we do know the latter part of the work week features rain and possible high elevation snow. This is nothing to get excited about as amounts look light but be sure to check back in Tuesday morning for another forecast discussion.
