A Relatively Quiet Holiday Week
Good Morning Folks! Sunshine is dominating the landscape this morning (Sunday) and will continue to do so for most of the day, however high clouds should push in as near sunset and continue to fill in throughout the night. Passing high clouds linger overhead Monday as a front approaches the region, with a narrow band of showers pushing through overnight into Tuesday. The front should exit quickly and allow sunshine to return by midday Tuesday, hanging around through the end of the week and allowing for a travel free holiday this Thanksgiving. A second front approaches from the north on Thursday but it looks to have minimal impact to the region. By the time Saturday rolls around the models point to a disturbance that could bring scattered to widespread showers to the region, but since we are more than five days out we will not go into too much detail at this time. All in all, the week ahead looks quiet and temps for the most part will be seasonal as we experience both below and above average days.
Temps today reach the upper 50's - low 60's across the valleys, while the ridgelines only climb to the upper 40's. High clouds push in late tonight but not fast enough to stop temps from dipping into the mid 30's - low 40's depending upon elevation.
Monday features high passing clouds throughout the day as the front approaches from the west, eventually crossing the region overnight into Tuesday. Showers accompany the frontal passage with light rainfall totals under a quarter inch for most of the region. Temps Monday will be similar to today as they climb to the upper 40's along the ridgelines and to the upper 50's across the lower elevations, however most of SW NC will settle into the low 40's overnight into Tuesday. The exception will be the immediate TN line as NW flow ushers in colder weather post frontal, allowing temps to dip below freezing above 5500' where any lingering rain will kick over to snow with little to no accumulations expected.
Tuesday through Friday should be pleasant as sunshine dominates the forecast, however temps will be slightly below normal Tuesday as they only reach the low 40's - low 50's, warming to the mid 40's - upper 50's by Thanksgiving and cooling back down to the low 40's - low 50's Friday. Overnight lows settle into the upper 20's - mid 30's each night under clear skies.
As we mentioned above the models point to a wet Saturday and Sunday as a disturbance pushes through the Southeast, but we will not provide any details till Tuesday to allow the models to gain confidence in the timing of the event.
