A Muggy Start to the Week

Good Morning Folks! We have light showers moving across the region today (Sunday) and coverage will wane as the day moves along, with a cold front slowly moving into the region tomorrow. This front will take till Tuesday to fully settle into the region and eventually will clear out late Wednesday as high pressure to the northwest sets up shop Thursday, resulting in a more fall like feel across the Southeast. Temps will go from the mid 70's Monday to the upper 60's Wednesday and dip slightly further Thursday to the mid 60's, holding there into the upcoming weekend. Rainfall totals will be light Monday through Wednesday, totaling a half inch at most for the area as this event will be weak at best. Overnight lows warm up slightly but max out Monday night to the mid - upper 50's, cooling down to the upper 40's by week's end. Of note, we did have some flurries along the TN line this past weekend, with Snowshoe reporting light snow for several hours.

Monday features a slow moving front barely pushing into the region by the end of the day, taking till Tuesday to drape across the region. A high pressure system off the FL coast will spin moisture our way but the overall flow will be light, so we only expect light showers to pop up across the region, with a slight chance for thunderstorms across the Upstate. Temps will be warm on Monday, hitting the mid 70's in Cullowhee and Franklin, while the ridgelines only peak to the low 60's; overnight lows dip into the low - upper 50's depending upon elevation. Tuesday cools off slightly due to more clouds sitting overhead and slightly better chance for rain, whereas Wednesday features periods of sun poking through the cloud cover, with isolated shower chances. Temps Tuesday reach the upper 50's along the ridgelines and low 70's for the valleys, cooling down a few more degrees on Wednesday to the mid 50's and upper 60's respectively, mainly because the fall like airmass begins to infiltrate after midday.

Thursday and Friday offer up full sunshine, dry air and cooler temps, however this weekend is still up in the air for us as some models point to a second passing cold front, while other keep the fall like weather around another day or two. Temps Thursday and Friday push into the low 50's for the ridgelines and mid - upper 60's for the valleys, with overnight lows returning to the mid - upper 40's. We'll circle back Tuesday morning with a more detailed look at the upcoming weekend.
