Scattered Showers Thursday and Friday
Good Afternoon Folks! Pop up showers are moving slowly across the region this afternoon, with temps in the mid - upper 80's across the valleys and low 70's along the ridgelines. Muggy conditions will persist today (Wednesday) through next week as overall flow remains out of the south, at times changing from southwest to southeast but nonetheless out of the south for the foreseeable future. This means shower chances remain high but no washout is expected, just the run of the mill pop up showers and thunderstorms as no upper level feature interacts with our region through at least Monday. A cold front looks to come close to the TN line Friday but it should be far enough to our NW that only the TN Valley area picks up widespread showers. Lastly, temps will remain in the low - mid 80's each afternoon for the valleys and upper 60's - low 70's for the ridgelines, which is fairly normal for late August/early September.
Thursday and Friday both feature scattered showers and thunderstorms each afternoon, with most of the action focused along the ridgelines and few migrating over nearby valleys, but all in all it will be a summer like setup with muggy conditions each afternoon. Temps climb to the low - mid 80's with cooler temps by a degree or two on Thursday compared to Friday as this is our best chance for showers (more clouds overhead), with most of the action fizzling out by the late evening hours, setting up partly cloudy skies each night; temps dip into the low - mid 60's for most of the region.
Saturday is the football home and season opener for Western and the game is later than normal, kicking off at 6pm. This translates into a muggy tailgate, however enough high clouds should be overhead to keep most of the heat at bay, with temps rising to the mid 80's across the valley; perhaps around 79°F by kickoff, cooling off to the low 70's by games end. For folks not attending the game, you'll find enjoyable conditions along the ridgelines as temps reach the low 70's.
Sunday into next week will keep the heat and moisture around, with pop up showers each afternoon, however by Labor Day (Monday) there looks to be more sunshine overhead than Saturday or Sunday, setting up a great day to hit the rivers or lakes. ENJOY!
