Muggy Conditions Linger into Tuesday

Good Morning Folks! Of course it's muggy seeing how it's August and we're in the mountains, but additional moisture will migrate into the region today through Saturday, setting up above normal humidity levels. This setup will aid in the development of widespread showers Saturday, followed by scattered showers Sunday through Tuesday. A cold front looks to arrive sometime Wednesday or Thursday of next week, setting the stage for a drier and perhaps cooler airmass across the Carolinas. For those wishing summer would end, be patient as our fall like weather usually kicks in early September for the ridgelines, sliding down to the valley floor by late September; only 3 - 5 weeks away!

Mostly cloudy skies with minor periods of sunshine will be the norm throughout the day today (Friday), with showers developing around midday and continuing into the evening hours. The showers moving through shouldn't be severe in nature and thunderstorms should be isolated at best, which should allow local high school football games to play through, however you should bring a rain jacket as showers are likely. Temps rise to the low - mid 80's today for the valleys and only dip into the low - mid 60's tonight under scattered showers and cloudy skies.

Saturday and Sunday doesn't bode well for those who need dry and sunny weather as widespread showers push in Saturday, followed by a very muggy setup with spotty showers Sunday. The silver lining will be the temps as they struggle to reach 80°F across the valleys, only making it to the mid - upper 60's across the highest ridgelines. The majority of the action will be found along the N GA state line and also the escarpment, where the mountains drop off to the foothills, with an inch likely region-wide and perhaps as much as 2" in isolated spots (24 hour period ending Sunday morning). The biggest threat tomorrow will be training cells that could setup camp and dump heavy rains, but these should be isolated and focused along the ridgelines close to the N GA and SC state lines.

Monday into Tuesday keeps the above normal moisture levels pouring into the region, allowing scattered showers to develop each afternoon. There is a better chance for thunderstorms on Tuesday as a cold front approaches and provides some instability to the airmass in place, but only an inch of rain is expected from Sunday through Tuesday, so not much in the way of a washout. Temps rise to the upper 60's along the ridgelines to the upper 70's - low 80's for most of the populated areas.

Drier weather is slated for Wednesday and Thursday, with full on sunshine likely for Thursday and temps look to hold to the upper 70's each afternoon, with overnight lows dipping into the 50's!
