Sunshine Returns Thursday and Friday
Good Morning Folks! We have picked up an inch for most of the region these past few days, with several spots exceeding the two inch mark, putting us right on track with the forecasted amounts. We'll experience additional scattered showers and thunderstorms today and as the bulk of the moisture and upper level players move off to the east this evening, we'll enjoy two days of relatively dry weather before a cold front moves in Saturday. This cold front will linger to our south Sunday and perhaps push back into the region early next week, but either way, enough moisture will return by Monday to allow scattered to widespread showers Monday through Wednesday of next week. Temps all the while will go from slightly below normal today to right around normal Thursday through Sunday and then they'll enter another cool down period, mainly due to cloudy skies and the ramp up in shower activity.
Today (Wednesday) will bring us scattered showers and thunderstorms, moving east across the region and developing primarily along the ridgelines. Some of the showers may evolve into thunderstorms and although strong thunderstorms with heavy downpours are possible, the severity threat is much lower than the past few days. Temps only rise to the low 60's along the highest ridgelines and warm up to the upper 70's in our deeper valleys. Temps settle into the mid 50's - low 60's tonight depending upon elevation and fog is good bet, especially for the valleys and areas that pick up rain this afternoon.
Thursday and Friday will be our driest days as lower moisture levels develop, mainly due to the exit of the excessive moisture currently in place across the Southeast region. There should be more sun than clouds both days, however an isolated shower is likely, more so on Friday than Thursday and at the moment we don't foresee any reason to alter your outdoor plans. Temps push into the low 70's - mid 80's depending upon elevation each afternoon and return to the upper 50's - mid 60's each night.
By the time the weekend rolls around, we'll notice an uptick in high clouds as a front approaches from the west. This front shouldn't produce numerous showers, but isolated pop up thunderstorms are a good bet Saturday, with only passing clouds expected on Sunday as the front hangs to our south. Temps hold to the low 70's - mid 80's each afternoon, however with more cloud cover overhead it will feel slightly cooler than Thursday and Friday.
With possible widespread showers returning by early next week, we can expect a cool down in temps to the low 60's - upper 70's Monday and Tuesday, however it being 5 - 6 days out, we encourage everyone to check the forecast as we approach the weekend to ensure nothing has changed. We'll return with another update Friday morning.
