Gradual Uptick in Shower Chances
Good Morning Folks! We have enjoyed a wonderful start to the work week with low dewpoints and near normal temps and although this trend will carry over into today (6/5), we expect humidity levels and temps to gradually rise Wednesday into the weekend. By Wednesday enough moisture will be present to fire up an isolated shower or two, same for Thursday, however by Friday there may be enough instability to develop a handful of thunderstorms. A cold front swings through both Wednesday and Sunday, with the former not amounting to much and the latter possibility resulting in our best chance for rain this week. Temps all the while will go from the upper 70's - low 80's across the valley this afternoon to the low - mid 80's by week's end, so not much of a climb but when we factor in rising moisture levels, it will feel rather sticky as we near the weekend.
High clouds pass overhead out of the NW today and there will be periods of sunshine, with temps rising to the mid 60's along the ridgelines to the low 80's throughout the valleys. Temps will return to the low - upper 50's tonight and its likely the valleys report a cooler low temp than the ridgelines as we deal with little to no wind and clearing skies overnight into Wednesday.
Wednesday and Thursday feature a passing cold front, one that will not amount to much in terms of shower activity, but it will be enough to mix the atmosphere to allow an isolated shower or two to fire up each afternoon. The focus of this short lived and not impressive shower activity will be along the TN line as NW flow continues to be the dominate pattern across the region, although the Great Balsams and Cowee Mountains could also be prime spots (very tough to nail down pop up shower locations during the summer months). Temps will continue to rise to the mid - upper 60's along the ridgelines and low - mid 80's throughout the valleys; overnight lows dip into the upper 50's - low 60's.
Friday through Sunday offers up an increase in shower coverage with a better chance for thunderstorms and coverage could be just about anywhere as moisture invades the region. Expect muggy conditions and keep your outdoors plans on Sunday optional, as scattered thunderstorms could put a damper on your plans, but this is not set in stone as the front could easily slow down and arrive next Monday.
