Muggy Sunday & Monday; Sunny Tuesday

Good evening folks! Scattered showers are ramping up across the area as we move closer to sunset, with scattered showers and thunderstorms occurring this evening and lasting through the pre dawn hours on Sunday. Rainfall totals have ramped up with the front stronger than previously forecasted and this mainly affects the escarpment where up to an inch is possible by midday Sunday; 0.25 - 0.50" for the rest of SW NC. Shower coverage will slowly wind down as the day moves along Sunday, with sunshine and high clouds slated for Monday as cold air damming sets up across the Carolinas. Sunny skies reign supreme Tuesday and it looks like we are in for a widespread rain event late Wednesday into Thur

Passing Showers Saturday; Still Warm

Good afternoon folks! It feels more like spring outside than fall with temps pushing to the upper 70's across the region, alongside elevated moisture levels as southeasterly flow increases across the Carolinas. The frontal passage is being held up and even questioned among the modeling, prompting a slight change to the forecast, with isolated showers Friday afternoon and scattered light showers now expected on Saturday. Nothing to worry about if you have outdoor plans, just keep in mind a light shower is possible Saturday and rainfall totals still will be under a quarter inch over the 48 hour period. Sunshine will try to mix in on Sunday, possibly lingering into Monday and it looks like anot

Light Showers Friday & Saturday

Good afternoon folks! Not much has changed since our previous discussion, except that temps are now expected to only dip a few degrees Friday and Saturday, keeping the stretch of above normal temps alive and well. We'll enjoy a mostly sunny day Wednesday followed by a handful of clouds on Thursday, but sunshine should still win out with rain chances holding off till later in the night. Isolated showers late Thursday night expand to scattered light showers on Friday as the front approaches from the northwest, with light showers continuing into Saturday, ending by the late afternoon - early evening hours. High pressure briefly influences the region Sunday and Monday and brings us sunshine Sund

Above Normal and Dry through Thursday

Good evening folks! After a gorgeous fall weekend temps will push to above normal levels, running 4 - 6 degrees above normal Monday through Thursday as southeasterly flow increases across the region. High pressure will dominate the weather pattern till the end of the week, eventually breaking down, setting the stage for a passing cold front sometime Friday into Saturday. We'll experience light - moderate showers with scattered coverage as the front approaches and pushes through the region, drying out in time to salvage a dry end to the weekend (timeline not set in stone). Temps cool down to seasonal levels behind the front and it looks like we'll sneak by with a frost free week after temps i

Cooling Down; Frost this Weekend

Good afternoon folks! Everything is still on track with a front approaching the region later tonight, pushing across the region Friday morning, highlighted by a noticeable change in temps and moisture levels as we move into the afternoon hours. Below normal temps move in Friday and hang around through Saturday, gradually returning to normal by Sunday and Monday and warming ever so slightly as we move into the latter part of next week. Rain chances continue to remain slim with our only window for rain occurring Thursday night into Friday morning, but coverage will be scattered at best and totals very light. The only headline to speak of is the likelihood for frost to develop both Friday and S

Warm through Thursday; Chilly by Friday

Good afternoon folks! If you haven't noticed peak color is underway along the ridgelines and moving down the mountainside, with peak color beginning to unfold around 4000' - 5000'. The recent rainfall did a number on a few peaks above 5800' but for the most part the higher elevation canopy was spared, making this week and upcoming weekend a perfect time to hit the Parkway or your favorite leaf peeping road. We'll enjoy a dry week this week and the dry spell could extend all the way into late next week, which is typical for fall and welcomed by many after our numerous 1 - 2" plus rounds of rain this season. Temps will run 4 - 6 degrees above normal Wednesday and Thursday but a cold front movi

Drying Out; Warm through Thursday

Good afternoon folks! Showers continue to pepper the region as of Sunday mid afternoon and coverage will continue into the evening hours, fizzling out before midnight. Most of the region picked up 2 - 2.5" of rain from Friday morning into Sunday afternoon and numerous sites are reporting 3", with a handful surpassing 4". Only three stations are making a run at the 5" threshold, so all in all the forecasted totals are verifying and it looks our next round of rain will be isolated showers Monday and Thursday nights. A front will swing through the region around sunrise on Tuesday and a few showers will develop overnight along the TN line, while the rest of SW NC remains dry. Sunshine reigns sup

Rain Amounts Increase; Washout Sat Night

Good morning folks! We're back to a heavy rain event on the models for the weekend and the only silver lining we have for you is that the bulk of the rain will fall overnight into Sunday morning. We'll still endure a wet Saturday and totals are higher than our previous discussion, but the timeline still looks roughly the same with event winding down Sunday night, followed by spotty pop up showers Monday. The Southern Highlands Plateau and Great Balsams could end up with 5 - 6" of rain spanning Friday morning into Monday morning, with the rest of SW NC likely picking up 2 - 3" (a decline in totals as you move away from the SC state line and go toward the TN line). Temps will continue to level

Wet Weather Settles in Saturday

Good afternoon folks! The models are starting to come around in regards to Delta's eventual track after it makes landfall along the Gulf Coast Friday. It looks like our region will be spared the heaviest of the rain as Delta's remnants are forecasted to track west of the mountains, but we'll still pick up a decent amount as southeasterly flow keep moisture pumping into SW NC. Rainfall amounts as of mid afternoon Wednesday show a highly variable setup with as low as a half inch for locations close to the TN line, upwards of 2 - 3" along the escarpment. We'll enjoy two more days of dry weather Thursday and Friday and shower activity should begin late Friday evening, taking till the afternoon h

Upper 70's by Mid Week! Rain this Wknd?

Good afternoon folks! I apologize for not posting on Sunday. We hung out in the woods longer than expected and did not arrive home till after dark. The start of the week is just about over so we'll focus on our attention on Tuesday into the weekend, with confidence dropping off somewhere around Friday or Saturday. Overall, we'll experience a warming trend this week as temps climb to the upper 70's by Wednesday, eventually cooling down to near normal levels by the weekend as rain chances increase. Tropical Cyclone Delta's eventual track after landfall will determine how much rain we receive Friday into the weekend and currently the models are slowly trending toward a wet weekend; this is not

Frost Saturday Morning; A Beautiful Weekend

Good afternoon folks! The front is passing through the region as of Thursday late afternoon and we'll notice temps begin to drop into the 30's overnight for the higher elevations but frost should hold off with NW winds around 10 - 15mph. Friday brings us a chilly end to the work and school week with temps in the upper 40's - low 60's across the area under mostly sunny skies. Our best chance for frost occurs Friday night and as of today it looks like the valleys will sneak by with a patchy frost, while those above 3000' experience increasing coverage. Cool and dry weather prevails this weekend and even extends into the middle of next week, with a slight warming trend Sunday into Wednesday tha
