Good afternoon folks! Rainfall totals are below our forecasted totals for Friday into Saturday evening with a few locations hitting the 0.75" mark, but most of the region only picked up 0.25 - 0.5" of rain over the 36 hour period. Drier air is moving into the region as of Saturday afternoon and we'll notice shower coverage scaling back to isolated showers tonight, extending through the day on Sunday. Hurricane Laura, now Tropical Storm Laura, was an historic storm with wind speeds tied for 5th all time for land-falling hurricanes (150mph), combined with catastrophic surge along the SW Louisiana coast and inland as far as 30 - 40 miles! Good afternoon folks! All eyes are on Hurricane Laura as rapid intensification is expected over the next 24 hours before making landfall along or nearby the TX/LA state line. Our previous forecast of a dry and mostly sunny start to the work and school week evaporated over the weekend as the overall setup has shifted just enough to keep shower chances alive for both Monday and Tuesday. Weekend Cooperates; Slightly Warmer
Good afternoon folks! Quite a bit of rain has fallen since Wednesday morning, with a report of 5" along the escarpment out of Rosman and a whopping 5.46" in Cullowhee from a heavy downpour. Elsewhere across SW NC rainfall totals are in the 1 - 2" range for a good portion of the region, with several stations closing in on 3" across the Southern Highlands Plateau.
