Showers Friday; A Bit Calmer this Wknd

Good afternoon folks! With Thursday almost almost over we'll focus the discussion starting Friday and ending Tuesday, with a lower confidence in the forecast beginning Monday due to (currently) Tropical Storm Isaias' impact on the Carolinas. The forecast remains roughly the same from our previous discussion on Tuesday, with Friday featuring an active afternoon with showers, scaling back slightly in coverage for the weekend. Early next week's forecast depends on Isaias' eventual path, possibly bringing us an increase in showers if it moves west or a further drop off from Sunday if it pushes east along Carolina coastline. Either way it seems muggy conditions stick around with a steady flow out

Daily Showers; Comfortable Temps

Good afternoon folks! We expect slightly cooler temps to occur Wednesday through Friday as shower chances increase due to an upper level trough and several passing shortwaves. The weekend will warm up by a degree or two and shower coverage will also wane slightly, but we still expect scattered showers each afternoon. Thus far the passing low pressure system to our west later this weekend looks to hold its ground on the models and keep widespread, heavy rain off to our west, but we'll still manage to pick up anywhere from 2 - 3" of rain beginning Tuesday afternoon, ending Sunday morning. Beyond the increased chances for rain this week, this should be a typical late July - early August setup t

A Wet Week Ahead; Cooler by Thursday

Good afternoon folks! We're focusing the timeline from Monday into Thursday and taking a peek at the start of the weekend, with all signs pointing to a daily uptick in shower coverage, while at the same time temps gradually cool down to below normal levels. An upper level ridge will maintain its hold over the Southeast on Monday but break down by late Tuesday as a trough takes its place, with a slow moving front crawling into the region late Tuesday into Wednesday. This will flip the pattern from hot and muggy conditions with periods of sun and afternoon storms to mostly cloudy, scattered to widespread showers throughout the day and cooler temps. This transition will not be overnight and it

Same Old, Same Old; Warm, PM Storms

Good afternoon folks! The past few days have been hot for late July but at least we have had ample shower and thunderstorm development each afternoon, providing some shade or cool-down from the rain. We'll deal with another round of midday - mid afternoon showers and thunderstorms on Friday and the weekend features more sunshine but we'll continue to deal with pop up showers and thunderstorms, only this time much later in the day. Coverage increases slightly early next as a ridge tries to reemerge across the region, possibly being stopped by a pattern change later in the week that could bring us below normal temps (a possibility but one we are excited to watch play out). Keep those outdoors

Shower Coverage Peaks Thursday

Good afternoon folks! Not much will change over the next five days as we still expect active afternoons with showers and thunderstorms Wednesday through Friday, stepping back slightly Saturday and Sunday but returning to a muggy and active setup early next week. We have had a few days with temps touching or slightly surpassing the 90°F mark and this should end today (Tuesday) with temps in the mid - upper 80's Wednesday through Sunday. If you are hoping for even more rain then Wednesday and Thursday are your days, with coverage increasing to widespread, scaling back slightly on Friday. The weekend features a bit more sunshine with sunny skies possible all the way into the early - mid afterno

Soggy and a Touch Cooler Mid Week

Good afternoon folks! Not much change from the previous discussion, with muggy and hot conditions rolling into Monday and shower coverage increasing as we move into the middle of the week. Temps will cool down slightly by Wednesday as mostly cloudy skies take over but we'll continue to experience muggy conditions all the way into next weekend. Monday and Tuesday feature much of the same setup as Sunday (pop up thunderstorms past midday), whereas Wednesday through Friday features scattered to widespread showers throughout the day. If you have an itch to hit the water or spend the night outside we recommend getting out Monday and Tuesday, as the middle to end of the week looks soggy enough to

Muggy with Pop Up Storms this Weekend

Good afternoon folks! Dewpoints in the low 70's with temps in the mid - upper 80's is making for another muggy summer day across the region and this setup will linger through the weekend, cooling down slightly Tuesday into Thursday of next week as showers coverage increases. Pop up showers and thunderstorms make up the forecast Friday through Sunday, followed by high clouds on Monday that may temper shower development slightly. Mostly cloudy with daily afternoon showers are in store Tuesday into Thursday. We still recommend spending time outside this weekend and if you want full sunshine or something close to, we advise getting outside before 10am as partly cloudy skies develop as soon as th

Afternoon Showers Return; Still Hot

Good afternoon folks! We're past the peak heat of the day and only two spots managed to hit the 90°F mark, both personal weather stations, one in Franklin and one in Lake Junaluska. We'll continue to experience normal to slightly above normal temps Thursday into early next week, alongside higher dewpoints that will create a typical summertime (muggy) setup across the landscape. Shower and thunderstorm chances increase Thursday, peaking briefly Friday afternoon as a weak front pushes across the region, then scaling back to Thursday's levels (scattered at most) for the weekend and early next week. There is an upper level ridge that is keeping the temperature turned up across the South and it c

Sunny and Hot Tuesday and Wednesday

Good afternoon folks! The possibility of a wet, cloudy end to the week with cooler temps is no longer and we are moving forward with a normal summer time setup for Tuesday into the weekend. Temps will peak Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons under an upper level ridge and moisture levels will slowly increase as the week moves along. This will prompt pop up thunderstorms to return by Thursday, with coverage inching upward as we move into the weekend. All in all, the week ahead looks great to be outside and the weekend less so as scattered showers develop each afternoon; higher coverage on Sunday. Tuesday and Wednesday feature mostly sunny skies with very a low chance for showers each afternoon

Isolated Storms Mon; Low 90's Tue & Wed

Good afternoon folks! Dry conditions will continue into Sunday, with a round of showers developing around midday Monday, followed by more sunshine Tuesday and Wednesday. Temps will climb a degree or two above normal starting Tuesday, hitting the low 90's across our deepest valleys, followed by a possible decline in temps late next week as showers possibly make a return. Sunday brings us mostly sunny skies and temps will climb to the upper 60's - low 70's above 5500', while the valleys warm to the mid - upper 80's. Later in the evening scattered showers will develop but this should fizzle out by midnight with overnight lows settling into the upper 50's - mid 60's, alongside a noticeable uptic

Typical Summer Storms Fri & Sat

Good afternoon folks! It early in the afternoon on Thursday and scattered showers and thunderstorms will once again develop across the region, which will pretty much be the norm moving forward as we continue to enjoy a normal summer time setup. Things are still on track for a sunny start on Friday and Saturday, followed by a round of scattered thunderstorms each afternoon. Sunday is still showing up on the models with more sun than clouds but we are not as confident moving into the early week time frame. Confidence is low due to a split in scenarios between a return to scattered showers or more of a dry (ish) setup with mostly sunny skies and isolated thunderstorms. Temps will continue to be

Upper 80's by Late Week; Sunny Sunday

Good afternoon folks! It's mid afternoon on Tuesday and we are not experiencing the widespread setup we thought would occur, but showers are plentiful across the area with most of the action occurring across the Southern Highlands Plateau. On Wednesday the low pressure system currently migrating across Georgia will move to the northeast, eventually turning up the NC coastline and this will translate to a change from easterly to northerly flow across the region. Scattered showers will develop once again Wednesday, with coverage holding to scattered levels both Thursday and Friday but with a bit more sunshine and an uptick in temps to the upper 80's by Friday. The weekend features a late eveni

Widespread Showers; Slightly Cooler

Good afternoon folks! We'll focus the forecast discussion starting on Monday, ending Friday, and the main theme for the week will be muggy conditions with above normal chances for showers each afternoon. Pop up showers will kick off the work week and an upper trough associated with the developing low pressure system along the Gulf Coast will bring us widespread showers Tuesday, that will carry over into Wednesday. Temps cool down slightly Tuesday and Wednesday due to increased rain chances and return to normal by Thursday as a mix of sun, clouds, and scattered showers take over the region, likely extending into the weekend. Temps will warm to the low 80's across the lower elevations on Monda

Run of the Mill Pop Up Showers

Good afternoon folks! It's Thursday and we are focusing the forecast timeline from Friday into Tuesday of next week, with our next discussion not coming until late Sunday afternoon. The good news is that things continue to improve regarding the Independence Day weekend setup, however we still expect pop up showers each afternoon on Saturday and Sunday. Our region will be in the middle of an upper level ridge to our west, a trough to our north (later in the weekend) and a possible low pressure system to our south (not set in stone). This will translate into a run of the mill setup, producing pop up showers each afternoon, with a mixed bag of sun and clouds on July 4th, followed by a slow upti
