Good afternoon folks! Yesterday's storms sure were something and one station just outside of Hendersonville picked up 6.89"! Most of SW NC picked up the expected 2 - 3", although some locations closer to the TN line barely squeezed out an inch. We are dealing with a NW flow setup today (Thursday) and this will carry over into Friday morning with a gradual shift to a westerly flow by the weekend. We expect spotty light showers along the TN line this evening and coverage will carry over into Friday morning, with clearing skies for the rest of SW NC; light snow above 5500'. Strong Storms Wednesday Evening

Good afternoon folks! Mt LeConte picked up an inch of snow and a dusting occurred at Newfound Gap early Monday morning, with rime coating a size-able portion of the high elevation ridgelines. Things are still on track for a widespread rain event Wednesday and the timing should be roughly the same since our last discussion, with a focus of heavy rain and strong winds during the evening hours. Rainfall estimates have risen since we last spoke, with maximum amounts possibly reaching 3" by Thursday morning. An upper level trough will take its time exiting the Eastern US Thursday and Friday, providing another chance for accumulating snowfall Thursday night along the highest ridgelines. High press

Widespread Rain on Wednesday

Good afternoon folks! We are wrapping up the weekend on a slightly chilly note as NW flow continues across the region, with spotty showers expected to carry over into the pre dawn hours on Monday. Temps will drop enough tonight to kick rain over to snow across the highest ridgelines but we'll start out the work week with clearing skies and sunshine, allowing temps to warm up a bit. Sunshine carries over into Tuesday and the frost threat for Monday night seems to have dissipated. Good afternoon folks! We are closing out the work week this afternoon, looking ahead at a round of widespread showers that'll move through the region Saturday afternoon. Spotty showers will linger across the area on Sunday and it will be noticeably colder, so much so that snow showers will fall overnight into Monday above 4500' for locations along the TN line. Sunshine returns Monday and hangs around through Tuesday with temps returning to normal levels, but not after a frosty start to the day on Tuesday! A Soaker Thursday; Showers Saturday

Good afternoon folks! We are in for a rainy Thursday with possible thunderstorms closer to sunset and shower activity will down for a vast majority of the region by Friday morning, however a few showers will cling to the TN line. Sunshine will return Friday closer to midday but this fair weather will be short lived as another disturbance approaches the region late Friday night, arriving sometime Saturday around midday. Good morning folks! Rainfall totals from Sunday evening into this morning were about half of what we forecasted, with most of the region picking up anywhere from 0.50 - 0.75", while the highest amount was out of Beaver Creek near Valley River at 1.06". Sunshine will filter into the region today and hang around through Wednesday late afternoon, with some high clouds passing overhead Tuesday due to a weak frontal passage. Temps will bottom out to below freezing levels Tuesday night, prompting frost across the region as high pressure moves overhead before sunrise on Wednesday. Heavy Rain Likely Sunday Night

Good evening folks! We have several rounds of rain moving through the region over the next 5 - 7 days, with rain sweeping the region tonight, again Sunday evening into Monday morning and finally Thursday afternoon into Friday. The Sunday night into Monday morning rain event looks to the be the heaviest of the three, but the late week event could match it if the models continue to trend wetter. Temps will remain below normal Saturday through Monday, ticking back up to normal levels by Wednesday and dipping below normal for the late week rain event. Good evening folks! We are in for a cold night as clear skies sit overhead and winds out of the NW push colder temps into the region, resulting in a freeze by Thursday morning as temps plummet to the mid 20's - low 30's. Thursday and Friday keep sunny skies overhead but temps Thursday will remain below average due to continuing westerly flow. Southerly flow takes over Friday, pushing temps to normal levels for mid April and a front swings through late Friday night, bringing with it a round of light showers. Ridgeline Snow Tuesday Night

Good afternoon folks! The past 24 hours certainly have been eventful with severe storms pushing through the region earlier this morning, on top of a saturating round of rain during the day on Sunday. Rainfall totals over the 24 hour period (Sunday 8am - Monday 8am) are almost too high to believe but they come from a reliable source (FIMAN network) and the winner was Cruso FD with a whopping 8.19". Other notable totals include Lake Toxaway at 7.55", Balsam Grove FD at 7.13", Highlands at 5.48" and Newfound Gap at 4.65". Good morning folks! Widespread freeze this morning will give way to a pleasant afternoon as temps warm to near normal levels under sunny skies. A lot will change over the next 36 - 48 hours as we expect a round of widespread rain Sunday, followed by a round likely severe weather late Sunday night. As of this morning all signs point to a line of strong to severe storms crossing our region during the pre dawn hours, with wind gusts up to 50 - 60mph as the line passes the area. Good afternoon folks! A line of strong to severe storms will sweep across the region early Thursday morning, followed by clearing skies, strong winds, and dropping temps. A round of light snow showers is possible Thursday night for the highest ridgelines above 6000' and Friday will remain breezy, yet sunny with temps well below average. Freezing temps setup shop Friday night and will prompt a widespread freeze Saturday morning, however temps will return to near normal levels Saturday afternoon under more sunshine. Good morning folks! Above normal temps will continue into the start of the week, peaking on Wednesday with temps running 10 - 13 degrees above average for early April. We'll experience a few pop up showers Sunday and Monday afternoon, followed by widespread showers late Tuesday into the pre dawn hours on Wednesday. A second round of region wide rain swings through the region quickly Thursday afternoon and evening, clearing out just in time for a sunny end to the work week. Good afternoon folks! The snow that fell on Wednesday, April 1st was failry impressive as it hung around for most of the day when we thought it would fizzle out by the late morning hours. Mt LeConte picked up 5", Mt Mitchell 3", and most ridgelines above 5000' picked up a dusting up to 2". Looking at Friday through Tuesday, it looks like we have sunshine on tap through Saturday, with clouds filling in early Sunday morning, followed by isolated showers after midday.
