Showers Tuesday; April Fools' Snow

Good afternoon folks! We have a shot of rain coming our way and temps will cool down to below normal levels, but only for Tuesday. High pressure moves in behind the rain on Wednesday, allowing us to warm back into the 60's, peaking to low 70's by the weekend. A round of high elevation snow is likely Wednesday morning (seriously, no April Fools' joke) but any accumulations will be held to the highest ridgelines above 5500'. Other than sunshine and warming temps, the only notable bit for the remainder of the week is a chance for patchy frost Thursday and Friday mornings. Tuesday starts out the day with showers developing around sunrise, first for the escarpment, then filling in for the rest of

Heavy Rain Tuesday Night; 80's on Friday!

Good afternoon folks! Since we are halfway through the day on Monday, we'll focus the discussion from Tuesday into Saturday. Showers are expected to return to the region late Tuesday afternoon and peak overnight into Wednesday morning, with only a few light showers lingering the rest of the day. Sunshine returns Thursday and with it our first real warm spell of the season as temps push into the mid - upper 70's Thursday, breaking into the 80's by Friday! High clouds will enter the region Friday and the models point to a possible light rain event Saturday, but we'll wait another day or two before committing. Tuesday will be a typical spring day with a foggy start for the valleys and clouds wi

Dry Thursday; Showers Return Late Friday

Good afternoon folks! Although things feel upside down the weather continues along and we still expect a cold front to pass through the region Friday night, followed by a short break in the action Saturday night into Sunday morning. This short breaks come to an end Sunday afternoon as showers return to the area, ramping up Sunday night and continuing into Monday morning. The models differ past Monday with one scenario a fizzling out of any disturbances that would keep shower chances alive, while the other keep shower activity alive and well into Wednesday, which is when both camps expect another region wide rainfall event. Temps through this time peak Thursday and Friday, cooling back down t

Three Rounds of Light Rain this Week

Good afternoon folks! Its late in the day on Sunday so we'll focus the forecast discussion starting Monday, ending Thursday. Generally the week ahead looks typical for early spring with a few rounds of rain, coupled with temps warming throughout the week to well above normal by Thursday. Peeking ahead to the weekend, it seems Friday or Saturday a cold front crosses the region, bringing with it another round of rain but more noticeable will be the cool down to seasonal levels after the front swings through the region. We expect passing clouds with a few light showers Monday, region wide rainfall Monday night into Tuesday morning, followed by another scale back in coverage Tuesday afternoon th

Rain Chances Linger into Next Week

Good afternoon folks! The weekend will not be the best setup for those wanting to spend time outdoors, with the best period for yard work or a hike occurring Saturday morning, while the worst time seems to be Sunday morning. Shower activity returns Saturday but it will take till the late afternoon hours for coverage to pick up and it seems we'll be in for a rainy Saturday night that will extend into Sunday morning. Coverage once again takes a step back late Sunday night and as of now the start of the work week will be dry, with passing clouds making up all of the action on Monday. A high pressure system will eventually scoot east sometime Monday and we'll experience another round of rain Tue

A Touch Cooler this Weekend

Good afternoon folks! The remainder of the week will feel very spring like and we'll notice a slight cool-down this weekend into early next week, but nothing cold or chilly as temps only dip to slightly below normal levels. Shower activity will continue through the rest of the week and weekend and we still think rain intensities will be light and coverage scattered, with light rainfall totals adding up to an inch starting Thursday, ending Sunday. So although this week and weekend will not be ideal for being outside 100% of the time, there will be plenty of breaks in the action to get outside. As of Wednesday afternoon the models are showing a round of rain moving in Thursday afternoon, peaki

Spring-like Temps and Rain this Week

Good afternoon folks! We're enjoying the sunshine today and we expect fair weather to continue for Sunday and Monday, with showers returning Monday night. The recent snow that fell yesterday under-performed at the usual locations with Mt. Mitchell only picking up 4", with lower amounts elsewhere. Although its early March and snow is still possible, the mid - long range outlook looks above normal for the month of March and early April. Back to the forecast, high pressure will continue to influence the region Sunday and Monday, with a front crossing the region on Tuesday. Widespread showers are likely during the afternoon hours on Tuesday and it looks like a break in the action will take place

A Skiff of Snow Friday; Sunny this Weekend!

Good afternoon folks! The rain we forecasted for today hasn't really materialized as the bulk of the action stayed to our south and this of course is effecting the forecast rainfall totals. The past 72 hours has brought most of SW NC a half inch of rain with a handful of sites closing in on the one inch mark, but this stretch of rainy weather will fall short of the forecasted totals by about an inch. The good news is that sunshine is still on tap for Friday, however the bad news is that NW flow will bring us breezy and colder conditions, with light snow along the TN line. This cool-down will be short lived as temps return to near normal levels Saturday and rise a few degrees above normal by

Rain Thursday; Dry Friday - Sunday

Good morning folks! Rain is currently falling overhead as we type this discussion, however showers will end this afternoon and we'll enjoy a break in the action tonight into Wednesday afternoon. There is even a decent chance we start the day on Wednesday with sunshine and clouds will slowly fill in as a low pressure system develops along the Gulf Coast. This low pressure system will tap a passing shortwave Wednesday evening to fire back up showers across the region, with coverage peaking Thursday morning, eventually winding down late Thursday night as a NW flow snow event for the TN line. Precip amounts will not change much from our previous discussion, with a quarter of an inch possible lat

Happy 1st Day of Spring!

Good morning folks! Here we are, the 1st day of meteorological spring and the weather sure will feel spring-like today with sunshine overhead and temps warming to the mid - upper 50's across the valleys. Showers move back in tomorrow morning but it will take till the mid - late afternoon hours for coverage to become widespread, with moderate rainfall expected overnight into Tuesday. We'll experience another round of moderate rainfall with widespread coverage for SW NC Tuesday and Wednesday and there is a slight chance for thunderstorms on Tuesday. The models have been shifting the bulk of the rain to our south over the past few days with each passing model run, however our region is still ex
