It didn't seem like we would meet our forecasted rain totals, but a size-able (not a majority ) portion of the region reached an inch and along the escarpment, several sites hit the 2" mark. The highest total was out of Lake Toxaway at 3.15" for the event, most of this falling overnight as the stronger storms passed through the region. We'll enjoy sunshine today, tomorrow and Wednesday, with showers returning Thursday as moisture from the Gulf of Mexico streams northward into the region. A front passes the region Friday and brings with it a period of heavy rain, followed by partial clearing Saturday and a chance for ridgeline snow Saturday night (nothing to write home abo

Temps remain well above normal through the end of next week, with Thursday and Friday a degree or two cooler than Christmas Day due to increasing cloud cover. Our next chance for rain will be Saturday, but the details are still very

Above Average Temps Next Week

Updated 12/21 = 12:30pm Good afternoon folks! We have a minor rain event Saturday night into Monday afternoon and not much after that, with temps well above average for the Christmas holiday. Fair weather should setup shop late Monday and linger well into Thursday, possibly even Friday of next week. The models are hinting at another precip event next weekend but we are not sure to how much rain could fall this far out in time. Temps Saturday will warm to the low 50's with a steady stream of clouds out of the south as moisture pushes into the region from the low pressure system along the Gulf coast. This low pressure system will eventually turn northeast and slide across southern Georgia la

Fairly Quiet through Saturday

Good afternoon folks! A quick look at Wednesday night as this will likely be the coldest night we have seen in weeks, with temps dipping into the upper teens - low 20's across the region. If you live above 3500' prepare for wind chill values in the single digits as winds gust to 30mph. Sunshine remains overhead Thursday, with a slight uptick in clouds Friday but we're still calling for mostly sunny skies to end the week. Clouds begin to ramp up Friday night as moisture associated with the low pressure system along the Gulf Coast spins our way, resulting in a mostly cloudy day on Saturday. A Window of Freezing Rain

Good afternoon folks! We have a much better picture of the wintry precip threat late tonight into early Friday morning. Although it's not a guarantee as nothing is a lock in this line of work, its a good bet that areas north and east of the escarpment and Great Balsams will dodge the freezing rain setup, with areas along and nearby the escarpment under a threat for a tenth of an inch of freezing rain into Friday morning; details below. Rain moves in this evening for all of SW NC and peaks in coverage and intensity Friday afternoon, exiting Saturday morning, however a second round of spotty showers develops Saturday night. This second round will setup a brief round of snow for the highest rid

Sunny through Thursday; Rain Friday

Good morning folks! Showers have been peppering the region since daybreak but we still do not expect the bulk of the rain to move in till the mid afternoon hours, peaking this evening and exiting early Wednesday morning. Some rain will kick over to sleet and freezing rain and then snow above 4500' tonight for the TN line, but this should be a minor event. Sunshine takes over Wednesday but temps will be roughly five degrees cooler than normal, holding firm into Thursday which is a change from our previous discussion (we called for much warmer temps). Precip moves back in early Friday and although the wintry precip chances are on the decline, we still expect some freezing rain and sleet for a

Showers Monday and Tuesday

Good morning folks! We wrap up the weekend under high passing clouds, however several valley locations will endure low level clouds and fog well into the late morning hours. We don't expect showers to break out across the region till closer to midnight and even then coverage will be isolated and rainfall intensities light. Spotty showers will dot the landscape Monday and we won't experience widespread rainfall till Tuesday morning, as we await the arrival of a cold front. This front will usher in colder temps for Wednesday and if enough moisture lingers on the back end, the higher elevations above 4500' could experience a wintry mix; minor accumulations at best. Sunshine takes over Wednesday

Nothing too Exciting through Sunday

Good afternoon folks! Thursday is shaping up to be a gorgeous day for early December as temps come close to the 60°F mark under another round of sunshine. The pattern changes Friday with a weak and light rain event closer to sunset, but this will move out quickly to allow a return of sunshine on Saturday. Clouds fill back in Sunday with more rain on the way Sunday night through Tuesday and as it stands now, the heaviest of the rain over the 2.5 day period will occur on Tuesday. Temps cool down a touch on Friday but essentially level out to near normal levels this weekend and we'll warm-up just a hair on Monday and Tuesday due to increasing southerly flow. All of the rain looks to move out by

Slowly Warming Up; Friday Showers?

Good afternoon folks! The NW flow snow event is playing out as expected, with sunshine across our most southern areas and on and off moderate snow showers occurring along the TN line. The weekend looks quiet at this point, at least for Saturday as the models hint at a possible light rain event late Sunday afternoon. This is still very much up in the air at this point, so keep your outdoor weekend plans and even if showers develop, they look to be light and closer to sunset. Temps will go from slightly below normal Tuesday to above normal by Th
